Elementには “得意分野”という意味があり
In one’s elementとは” …. はお手の物である” という意味です。
When it comes to speaking in public, President Obama is in his element.
人前で話すことならオバマ大統領はお手の物である。
逆に、out of one’s element というと
“… にあまり慣れていない、精通していない”
という意味になります。
He is out of his element in a sales job.
彼は営業の仕事には向いていない。

“うんざりするほど長話をする”という意味です。
I am afraid I’ve been bending your ears too much today. 
私は今日、長々としゃべり過ぎたようですね。
一方、bend one’s ear to と to が加わると、意味はごろっと変わり
“耳を傾ける” “注意深く聞く”となります。

日本語の耳を貸すという表現とまさに構成する二つの単語が一緒です。
I know you’re very busy now, but could you lend me an ear for a second ?
あなたは今、とても忙しいのはわかっていますが、ちょっとだけ耳を貸していただけないでしょうか？

あるいは
Not dry behind ears ともいいます。

“若くて未経験な” “うぶな”という意味です。
子供が顔を洗った後、耳の後ろをふき忘れることからきた表現です。
生まれたての子馬や子牛の体で最後に乾くのが耳の後ろであることからきた表現であるいう説もあります。
The politician is still wet behind ears.
その政治家はまだ若くて未熟だ。

これは動物が聞き耳を立てる習性からきた英語表現です。
I pricked up my ears when my name was mentioned in the meeting.
会議で私の名前が挙がった時、私は聞き耳を立てた。

“うわの空” “すぐに忘れてしまう”という意味です。
文字通り、片方の耳から入った情報が片方の耳から出ていくという様を表現しています。喋り手に注意を払わない態度を非難する場合に使われます。
You should remind him of the meeting because everything you say to him goes in one ear and out the other.
彼にその会議について再確認した方がいい。彼は何を言ってもすぐに忘れてしまうので。
